These thoughts comfort grieving Christians of all denominations,
BUT other faiths may reject Christian consolation . . . . . .
* * *
Encouragement in grief requires sensitivity even among the best of friends.
Silence can be as inconsiderate as the wrong words.
These thoughts are reassuring to grieving families with a Christian orientation, but can be quite offensive to others.
Consequently, a gift of this kind can strengthen or break friendships.
We encourage you to console Christians with thoughts about Jesus, but tactfully respect another family’s right to reject Christianity.
All Christian faiths should be comfortable using this book to console children grieving the loss of a loved one, because in spite of our pain, we have hope in Jesus.
It’s an awkward situation.
We have to explain events to the children, but we cannot hide our tears.
This can make us afraid to speak as they question us about their loved one’s absence, so it may seem easier to ignore them when we are so consumed with our own personal grief.
We decide it can wait until they are older.
Yet they are missing their departed loved ones today.
Our task is to orient them thru today’s pain before feelings of loneliness and abandonment rankle their thoughts into a maze of bitter memories.
One way thru our pain is to realize that we are not alone in our grief.
It is shared.
Our tears actually give children permission to cry and can create a sense of belonging. They are a natural expression of grief, and grief is a part of life in a loving family. We grieve because we care.
You may have been referred to this website through the gift of a pastor, funeral director, chaplain or other care giver. Just as God has placed you in a child’s life in their time of need, He has placed these caring individuals in your life.
It is with their spirit of encouragement that we have partnered with other believers to help Christian families communicate their faith to a grieving child.
We cannot give them our faith, but by the power of example in a casual read-a-loud time, you can allow them to question your faith, and learn why you seek comfort by trusting in God’s goodness.
Seeking God’s presence together in the midst of sorrow creates empowering memories that give us direction during the crossroads of life.
Support of this ministry comes from your prayerful purchase of our workbook as a gift to grieving families.
